Ultra X Linux Media Edition

Posted by admin on May 22, 2009, 11:31 am in General  •  Comments(0)

Ultra X Linux Media Edition comes with Boxee preinstalled. Boxee is a wonderful media center that streams internet video and more.

Boxee is an open-source media center which plays media from your computer and other devices in your home network, as well as connects you to various Internet sources that allow you to stream or download movies, TV shows, music and photos.

You can watch a quick intro to boxee to learn more.

Ultra X Linux V1.3 Media Edition also comes with Sun VirtualBox:

VirtualBox is a general-purpose full virtualizer for x86 hardware. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software.

Some of the features of VirtualBox are:

  • Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox.
  • Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers.
  • Guest Additions for Windows and Linux. VirtualBox has special software that can be installed inside Windows and Linux virtual machines to improve performance and make integration much more seamless. Among the features provided by these Guest Additions are mouse pointer integration and arbitrary screen solutions (e.g. by resizing the guest window).
  • Shared folders. Like many other virtualization solutions, for easy data exchange between hosts and guests, VirtualBox allows for declaring certain host directories as "shared folders", which can then be accessed from within virtual machines.

A number of extra features are available with the full VirtualBox release only (see the "Editions" page for details):

  • Virtual USB Controllers. VirtualBox implements a virtual USB controller and allows you to connect arbitrary USB devices to your virtual machines without having to install device specific drivers on the host.
  • Remote Desktop Protocol. Unlike any other virtualization software, VirtualBox fully supports the standard Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). A virtual machine can act as an RDP server, allowing you to "run" the virtual machine remotely on some thin client that merely displays the RDP data.
  • USB over RDP. With this unique feature, a virtual machine that acts as an RDP server can still access arbitrary USB devices that are connected on the RDP client. This way, a powerful server machine can virtualize a lot of thin clients that merely need to display RDP data and have USB devices plugged in.

Is Bill Gates Evil?

Most people seem to think Bill gates is out to rule the world, but I think he is just missunderstood! Bill Gates is just like any businessman out there.

He has a quality product which he markets and supports. His product is superior than other products not because it performs better than all the rest, but because it is widely used and reconized as the popular opinion. When you are trying to sell something you need to appeal to the nature of the consumer, if you do not then you will have very limited sales. Microsoft appeals to the consumer by being easy to use and very versitile. 95, 2000, ME, XP and Vista may not be the fastest or the most stable OS's in the world, but they are exactly what the consumers are looking for. Just because Microsoft has mades billions upon billions does not make them the most evil company in the world, just a very impressive one. Bill Gates started out in Harvard but droped out to form his dream company Microsoft, most people would think this to be ridiculous. But ingenious it was. Gates knew that the computer world would grow by leaps and bounds if it only had a friendlier interface. People are fasinated by computers, they spend what ever it takes to buy one or to fix one. The computer has assimulated into todays society so well that if some one would take away all the computers now it would be anarchy.

Today's world is so dependant on computers, if your in the computer field you do what ever you have to do to keep up to date and on the cutting edge. There is always another company out there who is going to pick up where you left off or sometimes even make millions off your missfortune. The movie Anti Trust paints a very vivid picture of how intergrated our lives are with technology. There are a lot of websites that poke fun at Bill Gates not because he is realy evil, or the Anti Christ, but because they are jelious. There are small minded people that think Linux and Unix based opperating systems are better than windows because they had to learn alot of command line or coding. Because they put so much time into using their computers they are upset that somebody that knows nothing can get online, print pictures, burn music and do everything that the Unix based users worked so hard to learn. So who is to bear the brunt of the hatered for this? Bill Gates, who else but the founder and CEO of Microsoft.

Windows is not the kind of opperating system you would use for large business or ISP based use. but is versitile and scalable. Microsoft even uses Unix based opperating systems for HotMail, or at least they used to. You realy should give someone like Bill Gates alot of respect for what he accomplished, Even if some means has been dishonest or illeagal, He has created something to be admired. You can ask any business owner how hard it is to start a business and to penatrate the market. 80% of first time business's fail in the first year. As a business owner myself I completly understand what is invovled in reaching the masses. It doesnt make the illeagal things that Micorosft has done right, they should be held accountable. But completly understandable why they have done what they have done.

I would'nt mind meeting Bill Gates, I would love to ask him questions about how he felt about certian obsticles he has faced and how he has overcame them. Further more I do find humor in the suggestions that Microsoft is alot like the Borg. The reason I think it so humorous is because microsoft does develop software solutions for virtualy everything out there. The Borg's catch phrase is "We are the Borg, Resistance is futile. We will add your technical and physical distinctivness to our own. Surrender your selves resistance is futile!"

Windows 7

For all of you out there foaming at the mouth for the release of Windows 7, have a seat; IT SUCKS!!!. Windows 7 is realy a build of Vista with GUI enhancements along with other OS enhancements. The GUI is designed to run faster than Vista's that is all. XP is still the most reliable OS. Does everyone remember those Mojave commercials on television? Microsoft was trying to determine if they rereleased Vista with a snappier GUI and a few enhancements if the public would buy it. Inferior pruducts by an obsolete company. I have ran a beta 1 of Windows 7 on a HP 2.8GHZ Dual core 1 GIG DDR2 1TB Hard Drives Geforce 7100 VID card, and it was a disappointment. Very comparable to Vista speeds. Runing XP Pro on that very same PC, is like heaven. What happened, is Microsoft realy reached the end of their rope with OS design? The answer is Profitablity, I beleive they can not design anything better to handle the GUI requirements that are becomming more and more previlent today. With Sabayon you will see the same thing. The hardware bar needs to be raised, lets get up to the 4.0 GHZ range and 8 - 12 GIGs of RAM. The problem though is coding, Vista/ XP/ Windows 7 go up to 64 bit not 128 bit, nor would the hardware manufactures design hardware or drivers for that. Think about video game graphics of your favorite console, 128 bit is out of reach except for NEO GEO, Jaguar was 64 bit, Nintendo 64 was 64 bit, except for the Xbox. The Xbox had a P3 chip that as 32 bit, as you know the Xbox had some flaws. The Xbox 360 is 64 bit, and the PS3 is 64 bit cell processors; basically DUAL CORE!

Whay not goe 128 bit, the coding! it is labor intensive and tedisis to code for 128 bit, then no one will code the games. Enjoy the platue we have reached in technology we will be here a while.
The answer is cut down on the graphics and run XP till technology catches up.
